Semen Antonov extended his contract with CSKA until the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, the Russian powerhouse announced Monday.
“I love reading books and I know that their main value is the expectation of something new, the emotions and sensations that the disclosure of the plot and the author’s idea brings. However, in life and sports, it is important to know what awaits you at a new turn, what tomorrow will be like. Therefore, I perceive the extension of relations with my native club as a continuation of my favorite story, which combines the stability and confidence that the club gives me, with the emotions and novelty that our favorite sport of basketball brings to all of us,” he explained, per the press release, “I am happy to retain the right to call myself an Army player, I am aware of my responsibility and will make every effort to have as many new victories as possible.”
Antonov, 31, has spent the last five seasons with CSKA. He since aided in the 2019 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champions. He was also crowned VTB United League champion four times.
“Simon is our silent power,” said head coach Dimitris Itoudis, “He is the man, who is not so sound statistically, but he does a big and important job on and off the court. He is a very smart player who knows every play not only of our team but of opposition too. Besides, Simon is a great person and family man. He used to set concrete goals in his life and does his best to accomplish them. We are happy to have Simon back with us for another contract term.”
He logged 1.8 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in his sixth EuroLeague season. In addition, he averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.2 rebounds per VTB contest.
CSKA re-signed Ivan Ukhov earlier Monday.Previous contract extensions kept Nikita Kurbanov and Johannes Voigtmann part of the squad led by Itoudis. Marius Grigonis is the lone addition so far.
